"That kid who walks home with us saw me on the playground today and he asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend. And I was like 'No, of course not! I don't want to be anyone's girlfriend.' And he said 'But you have to be my girlfriend because I like you.' And I said 'No, I don't want to be your girlfriend, and if you ask me again I'm going to run away from you.' And then he said 'But I really want to be your boyfriend.' So I ran away. How can I be that boy's girlfriend when we're supposed to be friends? I told him maybe we could be boyfriend and girlfriend when we're older, because he was upset. Oh, and I played with two girls on the swings, but they started fighting about taking turns, so I went to play with my other friend Nicholas because he had a soccer ball."
Apparently Avery is 5 going on 15...and smarter than most girls in high school.
